Glenmorangie Distillery(8 May 2003)
細長いネックのポットスティルで有名なGlenmorangie蒸留所は1843年に創業された。そのほとんどを自社製品として発売している、スコットランドでは異色の蒸留所。
創業者の資金が十分ではなかったため、ポットスティルはジン蒸留に使われた中古品しか購入できなかった。ところがそれがGlenmorangie独特の風味を生み出すことになった。創業者は強運の持ち主だったのかも知れない。ポットスティルの高さは約5mとスコットランドで一番高い。
Glenmorangie Distillery is really famous for their pot stills which have a tall and thin neck. It was established in 1843. Most whisky sell as own products. It is uncommon distillery in Scotland.
the founder of Glenmorangie didn’t have enough funds, so they bought secondhand stills which were used for making gin. Fortunately, they made peculiar flavor of Glenmorangie. The founder might be a very lucky person. Height of still is about 5m, it’s the highest still in Scotland.
Tain Tolbooth(8 May 2003)
Tainは古い歴史と共に古い石造りの建築物も多く残る。メインストリートにある印象的な建造物、Tolboothは1630年に建設された。裁判所兼刑務所として使用されたが1656年に Cromwellの軍隊に破壊された。現在残っているのは1708年に建て直されたもので、19世紀にはハイランドクリアランスの管理・遂行のための拠点として使用された。
Tain has also some old stone buildings. Tain Tolbooth, which is impressive building, was built in the main street in 1630 to house court offices and a jail. However in 1656 Cromwell’s troops were damaged large parts of it. Current building had been rebuilt in 1707 and it was used as an administrative centre for the clearances during the 19th Century.
